Clinic on Designing Integrated Financing Strategies for African francophone countries

28 January, 2010
Dakar, Senegal

A Designing Integrated Financing Strategy (DIFS) clinic is scheduled to take place in Dakar, Senegal on 28 January 2010, providing an excellent opportunity for African francophone countries to assess progress and exchange experiences in elaborating an IFS and Integrated Investment framework for sustainable land management (SLM).

The DIFS clinic is being held as part of a four day workshop (25-28 January 2010) on the management, monitoring and evaluation of projects related to SLM. The workshop's overall organization is by the United Nations Development Programme - within the context of the Least Developed Countries-Small Island Developing States (LDC-SIDS) programme - with support provided by the GM.

The clinic is designed as a follow-up to three subregional DIFS workshops held last year for African Indian Ocean countries, Central Africa and West Africa, which helped set the stall out for increasing access to financial resources for SLM through the IFS process.

Aside from evaluating the advances made since last year’s subregional workshops, the clinic will also look at the lessons learnt, challenges and next steps.

Many of those who participated in last year’s subregional workshops will be in attendance in Dakar - including representatives from UNCCD focal point ministries and LDC-SIDS coordinators - along with other interested francophone countries.

The GM looks forward to an interactive and dynamic session.
