A global foundation engaged in the field of biodiversity conservation.
To protect nature and its gifts – a stable climate, fresh water, healthy oceans and reliable food – to ensure a better life for everyone, everywhere.
Global, with a focus on a series of identified hotspots.
The main thematic areas are: climate change; water; health; food; culture; and biodiversity.
The foundation works at the global level in partnership with multilateral and bilateral donors offering grants to NGOs and small businesses that operate in the field through the following four sources:
- Critical Ecosystem Partnership Fund for the conservation of air, water and soil;
- Global Conservation Fund for the creation and management of protected areas;
- Verde Ventures for small and medium enterprises committed to protecting ecosystem and human livelihoods (this facility does not provide grants, but loans and private equity only); and
- A special Carbon Fund to halt deforestation and promote sustainable land management.
Specific application guidelines are provided for each fund.
