Catholic Relief Services is a non-governmental agency working to promote human development and poverty reduction in both emergencies and chronic crises.
The areas of intervention are: education; emergencies; food security; health and microfinance, with a focus on women empowerment and peace-building.
The agency tends to work in partnership with local organisations from the field and it provides both direct aid and community-based technical advice and training for local staff.
The main activities carried out in the food security area are the school feeding programmes. However, the agency also provides aid for education in the form of education projects.
Catholic Relief Services is also a major provider of food aid worldwide (second only to the United Nations World Food Programme).
Agriculture and Environment Strategy is a special programme from Catholic Relief Services, which contains guidelines to the support to pro-development agricultural activities in the timeframe 2009-2014.
