The Belgian Development Agency (BTC) is the agency in charge with the provision of aid for development and technical assistance on behalf of the Government of Belgium.
BTC identified the following focus areas for its operations: agriculture and rural development; climate and environment; education; governance; social and solidarity economy; HIV/AIDS; decentralisation; gender equality; health; and water and sanitation.
Financial support is provided through various channels: (i) project support; (ii) programme support; and (iii) micro projects. This last category consists of small grants for small-scale, locally-owned initiatives. A combination of budget support and basket funding is usually adopted as a financing mechanism.
