The mid-term evaluation of the UNCCD’s 10-Year Strategic Plan and Framework (known as 'the Strategy') is a unique opportunity for Parties and stakeholders to offer strategic guidance and influence the direction of Convention implementation, building on the experience gained since the adoption of the Strategy at COP8, in 2007.
In this context, on 25 and 26 March in Bonn, during the first session of the ad hoc Inter-sessional Working Group (IWG), tasked to prepare recommendations on the mid-term evaluation of the Strategy, the Global Mechanism (GM)’s Results and Impact Assessment Methodology (RIAM) was taken on board as an official working document.
This is a noteworthy achievement, reflecting the GM’s efforts to develop transparent, quality tools to monitor its impact, as called for by the Parties.
The GM’s contribution to the evaluation as a whole will centre on the global process to assess the integrated financing strategies (IFS) – its main instrument to support the mobilization of finance at the national level - and on the impact the GM has had in the implementation of the 10-Year Strategy.
