The Global Mechanism Launches Finance Info Kit

Info KitThe Global Mechanism (GM) has just launched the Finance Info Kit, a comprehensive online financing sources directory that aims to provide insights into public institutions and funds as well as foundations and private sector initiatives investing into sustainable land management (SLM).

The kit supports country Parties of the UNCCD and beyond, civil society organizations (CSOs) and other partners that are engaged in promoting more sustainable land use practices worldwide.

Lack of public finance and investments is often seen as a major problem for the implementation of the UNCCD and of programmes and initiatives promoting sustainable agriculture, forest and water management and rural development at large.

However, the reality is often more complex than “only” a problem of available funds. One of several reasons, as expressed by our partners, is the lack of comprehensive information and knowledge to access the wide diversity of funds, aid instruments and financing mechanisms that exist.

The GM has the central responsibility under the UNCCD in identifying and exploring sources of finance and financing mechanisms to promote SLM, including innovative opportunities building capacity and knowledge, particularly at the national level. The kit will be directly linked to the Knowledge Management Programme of the GM, which provides for south-to-south cooperation and knowledge exchange initiatives like “Designing Integrated Financing Strategies (DIFS)”.

The idea behind the Finance Info Kit is to deliver up-to-date information about financing sources, mechanisms and funds relevant for SLM, and tips on how to access them.
