About Us
The Global Mechanism (GM) is a specialized body of the UN Convention to Combat Desertification that supports countries to mobilize financial resources and increase investments in sustainable land management, helping reverse, control and prevent desertification, land degradation and drought.
Structure of the GM
To optimize its impact, the GM operates on two levels: regional and strategic. The programmes work hand-in-hand to support country Parties in developing comprehensive strategies to increase investments in sustainable land management.

With the potential to stimulate sustained economic growth and long-term social welfare, land is at the heart of some of today's most pressing global development challenges. Reinforcing the UNCCD and the GM is therefore crucial for the future we want.
What is the UNCCD?
The UN Convention to Combat Desertification, an international treaty, links environment and development to land management. Its 195 country Parties work together to improve the conditions for people in drylands to maintain and restore land productivity.
